SHILLONG, FEB 12: Khoushleem Baig, Rukhsana Perveen and Sofia Javed are set to make history in the 12th South Asian Games by becoming the first ever female boxers to represent Pakistan in an international event.
Khoushleem, Rukhsana and Sofia will feature in the 51, 60 and 75kg categories.
Pakistan chief coach, Ali Bux watched proudly as the girls sweated it out at the NEHU indoor training hall.
Rukhsana said she was confident about a good show in the South Asian Games in Shillong. The girl from Multan did not dig much into the difficulties she faced en route to this level.
“Society always creates problems, but once we are in the playing arena all that matters is the game,” she said adding that her family has always supported her. She was hopeful that she would make the country proud by winning a medal in her debut tournament.
For Khoushleem this was the biggest moment of her life. “I always wanted to represent my city, so you can imagine how I must be feeling to represent Pakistan,” she said. She was also excited over the possibility of a bout with Indian star MC Mary kom.
“That will be a great moment for me and I will give my best if the opportunity arises,” she said.-By Our Reporter
