SHILLONG, DEC 4: The All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organization (AJYWO) on Sunday demanded that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) speeds up the expansion project of the NH-44 in West and East Jaintia hills districts. “We urged the NHAI to direct the implementing agency to speed up the construction of the expansion project of the NH-44 to ensure public conveniences,” AJYWO president MH Dkhar said in a statement.
The project stretching from 4th Mile, about 3km from Jowai in West Jaintia Hills to Malidor in East Jaintia Hills, is being implemented by the company – GR Infrastructure Limited.
The organization also urged the district administrations to intervene into the matter and ensure that the company put in fast track mode the construction of the road.
“Despite the road being important not only to the people from Meghalaya but from other states as well, unfortunately there is slow progress in as far as the construction work is concerned,” Dkhar said.
He said the delay in completing the construction will affect the people of the region.
