Fast track court functional

roshan 1SHILLONG, APR 1; Meghalaya first woman home minister Roshan Warjri claimed that the fast track courts in Meghalaya were functioning even as she informed the court is scheduled to sit for the Williamnagar gang-rape case on Tuesday tomorrow.

Warjri statement followed the demands made by the former MP Rajya Sabha Robert Kharshiing asking the government to make all the fast track courts functional in view of the rising crimes against women in the state.

“From tomorrow itself, the court will be sitting for the Williamnagar gangrape case,” Warjri told reporters on Monday. She assured that the government was equally concerned over the growing crimes against women in the state.

Warjri said that for the Tura fast track court Nengdrasingh Sangma adhoc judge, of Tura, has been appointed as a judge while PL Sebastian, an advocate, will be the adhoc public prosecutor.

Warjri also informed that the fast track court in Shillong will be under adhoc judge MB Challam, who is also the additional district and session’s judge, Jowai fast track court will be under OP Lytan as adhoc judge and a special court (rape cases) in Nongstoin under Thomas Diengdoh as special judge.”

Warjri also said that the government was also considering transferring all pending rape cases to fast track courts for early disposal, she added.

Regarding the other demands placed by Kharshiing, Warjri said she would be examining the other demands in consultation with other line departments.- By Our Reporter
