SHILLONG, SEPT 24: The Farmers’ training-cum-Awareness Campaign on Integrated Farming and SRI (System of Rice Intensification) Cultivation was held under Integrated Basin Development & Livelihood Promotion Programme (IBDLP) in collaboration with agriculture department at Wilson Club, Bakrapara in Resubelpara, North Garo Hills on Monday.
North Garo Hills deputy commissioner W Khyllep, who graced the occasion as chief guest, highlighted the importance of rice cultivation and its production and productivity. He expressed his happiness that the farmers of North Garo hills had started using machineries like power tiller, water pump, etc for rice cultivation.
Khyllep said that under the flagship programme IBDLP, which includes nine missions, the farmers would achieve the target that has been set before them, adding that, on reaching the target, they would prosper economically. He also emphasized on coordination and cooperation between the government departments and the farmers.
During the day-long training programme, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Resubelpara, C.K Marak gave the training on SRI method of rice cultivation, Veterinary Officer Dr. Walme K. Sangma on piggery, while Sub-Divisional Fishery Officer Helparin A. Sangma gave the training on fish culture.-By Our Reporter
