SHILLONG, JUNE 25 : The Integrated Agriculture Training Center, (IATC) building located at Upper Shillong was inaugurated by Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma on Wednesday in the presence of the chief secretary WMS Pariat, Agriculture department principal secretary P Kharkongor and agriculture director D Syiemiong.
While inaugurating the training center, Sangma informed that the center will impart various training to the state’s farmers and needless to say they will benefit from various training programme that will be taken up by the institute.
Informing that eighty percent of the people live in the rural areas with farming being the main occupation, Sangma was hopeful that the center will help them to be more productive and in the process lift the economy of the state.
Sangma also said that the new initiative of the state government is in sync with various developmental programme of the undertaken by the agriculture department and other allied sectors.
The state agriculture department is embarking to convince the farmers to adopt, adapt and accept new technologies. The training institute will help create awareness and capacity building to the farmers by enhancing their knowledge and skills periodically on the evolving technologies in the field of agriculture.- By Our Reporter
