Farmers’ fair inaugurated

SHILLONG, APR 3: Shillong Lok Sabha MP Vincent H Pala inaugurated the Farmers Fair and Awareness programme on Pradhan Mantri Fasl Bima Yojna  at Chutwakhu Hall, Jrisalein, Jowai organized by the Krishni Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Jaintia hills on Saturday.

In his inaugural address, he emphasis on the importance of the Crop Insurance Scheme the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna and encourage the farmers to take full benefit of the scheme that will provide insurance coverage and financial support in time of loses of crops due to natural calamities or may get destroyed by pest or disease.

He stress on the need of reviving organic farming in the district and mentioned that organic farming has received considerable attention in the country at the same time organic farming will also revive the fertility of the soil. He also lauded the KVK, Jaintia hills for the success of the programme and hoped that the farmers will take benefit of this scheme.

D. Syiemiong, Director of Agriculture, elaborated on the importance of the scheme and requested the farmers to get their crops insured.

JHADC MDC Moonlight Pariat, Additional Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District SC Laloo, Scientist, Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, ATARI, ICAR, Umiam (ATARI), ICAR, Umiam   Amol Bhalerao were the others who spoke on the occasion.
