SHILLONG, APR 5: Aimed at encouraging voters to exercise their right to franchise, a photo exhibition on general elections to Lok Sabha election 2014 was held at Assam Club, Laban on Saturday.
Organized by the Field Exhibition Office, Directorate of Advertisement and Visual Publicity in collaboration with Meghalaya’s Chief Electoral Officer, the exhibition was inaugurated by the District Election Officer of Shillong Parliamentary constituency Sanjay Goyal.
Elections to the two parliamentary constituencies – Shillong and Tura seat in Meghalaya will be held on April 9.
Speaking on the occasion, Goyal expressed his happiness at the initiative of DAVP to create awareness among people on the importance of voting even as he requested people to attend the exhibition.
Demonstration of EVMs will also be held at the exhibition where people can come and try out the process of casting their votes in the EVMs.
According to Goyal, the election department would also organize a photography competition on the theme of election for professional and amateur photographers and winner of the competition will be awarded.
Similarly, the department has lined up entertainment programmes on April 9 at Lady Hydari Park for people since the day of poll is a state holiday.- By Our Reporter
