SHILLONG, NOV 27: The state’s schoolteachers on Friday demanded that the authorities come up with a ‘proper mechanism’ for conducting the internal promotion examination to avoid leakage of question papers.
According to the teachers if such mechanism is not put in place, the authorities should then allow the schools to conduct such internal promotion examination on their own.
The teachers have also demanded that the culprits responsible for the recent leakage of question papers for Class IX be punished as per law.
A delegation of teachers under the banner of the Khasi-Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) has also met the Executive chairman of the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) EP Kharbhih on the issue.
“We expressed our deep concern to the authority over such incident, which should not at all be allowed to continue in the interest of students and teachers,” KJDSTA president ED Nongsiang told reporters after the meeting.
He said the teachers have suggested to the board to resolve the matter at the earliest by taking the entire responsibility of conducting the internal promotion examination.”
“However, if this is not possible, then we suggest that the responsibility to set up question papers be left to the respective school authorities,” Nongsiang said.
Earlier, MBoSE had started introducing the common question paper for Class IX and Class XI Internal Promotion Examinations since 2013.
In his statement yesterday, MBoSE executive chairman EP Kharbhih had said, “While such examination is totally not under the MBoSE and is being conducted by the individual schools, the role of the MBoSE is just to facilitate or help the schools to conduct the exams by setting question papers.”
Stating that steps taken by the MBoSE is a good one which would bring uniformity in all the schools, Nongsiang, however, said, “But such incidents has brought about a sense of mistrust by the students, parents and also teachers.”
According to him, because of such leakage, students have to suffer as the examination had to be rescheduled to December 4. –By Our Reporter
