SHILLONG, MAR 28: BJP leader and Tura MDC Bernard N Marak on Monday said the government claims acquisition of 746 bighas of land in Tura but receipt says requisition, not acquisition.
Eviction notice issued to 10 families in Diringga locality needs proper evaluation as according to the Nokmas, the “Term of the lease” mentioned in the Gazette expired 3 years after the requisition,” Marak said in a statement.
“It’s very sad that eviction notices have been served to 10 Garo families to vacate within 7 days at this time when exams are going on,” he said.
The BJP leader said that the administration referred to the order passed against Megong boldak which is a threat to all the families residing in the 746 bighas of land.
The gazette of 1975 stated in the last paragraph that “Government elects to resume under the term of the lease instead of acquiring under the Act” and the receipt of the payment mentioned requisition instead of acquisition, Marak said adding that late P.A.Sangma represented as the Nokma’s lawyer then assisted by late Jangsan Sangma whose sign is seen on the receipt.
“Therefore, 746 bighas as per the Nokmas do not belong to the Government against which the Nokma filed affidavit during previous evictions,” he further stated.
