SHILLONG, JUNE 5: Wansuk Myrthong, the first and only women from Meghalaya so far, to scale Mount Everest was presented with a shawl during the felicitation by Meghalaya governor RS Mooshahary on Wednesday at Shillong Raj Bhavan saying that she made Meghalaya proud.
Mooshahary told Myrthong, who is a constable in 1st MLP battalion, “You have made us proud and it is a great honour for both the state police as well as the state as you successfully climbed the highest peak in the world. ”
Mooshahary asked Myrthong to relate her experience scaling the Mount Everest and she responded by recollecting her five days journey to the peak and overcoming the challenges on the way.
Myrthong said, ‘When I reach at the summit tears roll down my cheeks as I was so overcome by happiness at that historic moment.” She said she stayed at the summit for a period of ten minutes.
As Wednesday happened to be the world environment day, Mooshahary planted saplings at Raj Bhawan and also extended the same honour to Myrthong who also planted a sapling in the residence of the first citizen of the state.
Mooshahary informed the small gathering that a structure will be constructed near the sapling wherein Myrthong’s name would be mentioned as the oe who planted the sapling.
