SHILLONG, MAY 19: Euphoric state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday said the outstanding victory of the BJP in Assam is expected to boost the party prospect in Meghalaya in the upcoming 2018 state assembly elections.
The state BJP celebrated the victory of the party in Assam elections where it won 78 out of 126 seats. Fire crackers were lit at its under construction office building in the city.
“With this win, the party has been able to break one of the Congress’s strongholds in the North East and this will give the much needed boost for the party in Meghalaya,” BJP vice president Banshai Khongwir told reporters.
He said the party also extends its congratulations to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president, Amit Shah and Assam president for the big win in Assam.
Stating that the party in the state is young, Khongwir however said, “We are growing fast as a party in Meghalaya and NE region.” The party leader also expressed optimism that the party will be elected to power in the upcoming 2018 state elections.
Meanwhile, the BJP also extended its support to the National People Party (NPP) candidate and national president Conrad K Sangma, who won the Tura Lok Sabha Bye-Election.
“We congratulated Conrad for winning the election with a thumping majority,” Khongwir said while reiterating that his victory will also give a boost to the party in the state.-By Our Reporter
