TURA, AUG 3: The A’chik Students Welfare Association (ASWA) today demanded an increase in the post metric scholarship amount. In a statement issued on Monday , ASWA president Dikki N Marak said, “The scholarship is not enough to meet all the requirements of the students, including admission fees, purchase of books, stationeries etc”.
The association said that the scholarship is released at the end of the academic session, which put burden on the students. “We demand that the scholarship is released at the beginning of the session, which will help to the student community,” he said.
The association informed that they have already taken up the matter with the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, Shillong. “It should be immediately enhanced, as the Dy. Director of Higher and Technical Education, Shillong assured us that there are possibilities of enhancing the amount”, Marak added.
The association felt that increase in scholarship will help many poor and needy students.
At present the scholarship give is Rs. 3000/- – Rs. 4000/- and Rs. 5000/- to Rs. 6000/- for degree students. They are seeking a hike of scholarship amount between Rs. 15,000/- to Rs. 20,000/- “In other state the scholarship amount is higher. So government should be sincere enough to help the students of its own state as well”, the association felt.- From Our Correspondent
