SHILLONG, MAY 27: Garo Hills-based Embee Rosebud Secondary School, Tura bagged the top position in the Secondary School Leavinng Certificate (SSLC) examination, 2019 while St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School repeats its history when it once again topped in the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (Arts stream).
The results for both the examinations were announced by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) here on Monday.
Neelam Kumari of Embee Rosebud Secondary School, Tura became a topper of this year’s SSLC examination by scoring 577 marks, while Darila Akor Kharmawphlang of St Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong (565 marks) and Luigi Dalian Pasweth of QC Springside English Secondary School, Jowai (563 marks), bagged the second and third positions respectively.
St Mary’s also secured the fourth, seventh, eighth, tenth and eleventh position in this year’s SSLC top-twenty merit list.
Diana Kharbithai of St Anthony’s also topped in the HSSLC examination when she scored 452 marks while her classmates Prantik Bhattacharjee and Alethea Phoeba Nongrum were placed in the second and third position by scoring 446 marks and 444 marks respectively.
An elated principal of St Anthony’s Fr Surjit Tigga said it was a great blessing for the school that it was able to once again retained the top position in this year’s HSSLC examination.
Congratulating the students for their outstanding performance, Fr Tigga said, “The team work between the teachers and the students is the mantra of our success. We have a fantastic set of teachers who always give their 100 percent to educate the young minds and we thanked the parents for their good guidance at home.”
Meanwhile, the state recorded a pass percentage of 55.72 per cent in the SSCL examination, which saw a slight drop when compared to last year’s 56.76 per cent.
However, the overall pass percentage in the HSSLC examination was registered at 76.28 per cent when compared to 2018 which was recorded at 74.78 per cent.
A total 27887 of 50050 students from 615 schools cleared the SSLC examination held in 140 centres, while 18589 of 24371 students from 231 schools who gave the HSSLC exams held in 100 centres were declared successful by the Board.
Girls in both the examinations have performed better than boys.
East Jaintia Hills District scored the highest pass percentage at 77.06 percent while South West Garo Hills registered the lowest at 25.92 percent in the SSLC examination.
In the HSSLC examination, East Khasi Hills District recorded the highest pass percentage at 88.78 per cent while South Garo Hills with only 39.36 percent.
Meanwhile, four candidates of the SSLC examination and 1 of the HSSCL examination were expelled for adopting unfair means and they have been debarred from appearing the 2020 examinations.
