SHILLONG, MAR 21: In what can only be described as an embarrassment moment for PWD minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, chief minister, Mukul Sangma had to directed him to give correct reply on the recent restrictions imposed by the Air Force authority.
During the question hour in the assembly on Monday, Sangma differed with the reply of the PWD minister when the latter informed that there was no reason assigned by the Air Force authority for closing the approach road to Shillong Peak view point.
Stating that it is not a fact that Air Force authority had not indicated any reason, Sangma said, “I will see that the minister gives a corrected reply tomorrow. The Air Force had indicated the reason and I have already replied (last week).”
He also said, “The PWD department should have asked from the district administration to find out what is the situation as it is linked with law and order situation.”
Even when the HSPDP chief Ardent Basaiawmoit enquired whether the Air Force had given any prior information to the district administration before closing of the road, the reply of the minister concerned was still on the negative.
The situation even led the Independent South Tura legislator John Leslee K Sangma to question whether there is any gap between the office of the Chief Minister and PWD department.
Stating that there is no gap at all, chief minister however said, “But what is expected from the department is that they should also seek information from other authorities which are dealing with this situation.”
The chief minister said if reply is not corrected it will amount to misleading the house adding that the minister come up with correct reply tomorrow.-By Our Reporter
