SHILLONG, MAR 26: The East Khasi Hills district administration has directed all private coaching centres operating in the district — both offline and online — to register with the Education department under the newly notified Meghalaya Registration of Private Coaching Centre Rules, 2026.
The order, issued by the Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah on March 25, follows a state government notification dated March 12 that made registration mandatory and laid down student protection norms with grievance redressal mechanisms.
The statement states that the rules “have been framed in compliance with the order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in SLP (Crl) No(s).6378 of 2024 titled Sukdeb Saha v. The State of Andhra Pradesh & Ors., vide judgement dated 25th July, 2025.”
“As per the order, the State Government has directed mandatory registration of all Private Coaching Centres and the adoption of student protection norms with effective grievance redressal mechanisms,” it noted.
It added, “The notified rules provide for the registration and regulation of all Private Coaching Centres operating within the State … as well as the establishment of structured grievance redressal mechanisms.”
The Deputy Commissioner has requested all coaching centres in East Khasi Hills to register “in accordance with the provisions of the said rules” and asked concerned operators to take note of the above and ensure strict compliance.
