SHILLONG,AUG 12: Eight youths were picked up as winners from the thirty finalists of the Meghalaya Youth Community Awards 2015 from eight fields during a glitterati function held at U Soso Tham auditorium on International Youth Day on Wednesday.
The winners of the awards are – Toshanbor Singh Nongbet (Arts & Crafts), Mikhail Marak (Community- Peace and Harmony), Davida Paswett (Coomunity- Leadership), Light After Dark (Differently Abled), San Shnong Youth Welfare Organisation (Organization- Youth Based), Eugene Niangti (Entrepreneur- Services), Tinash Ch Momin (Entrepreneur- Farm), and K. Wallambok Lyngdoh (Adventure Sports).
With a mission to promote and encourage the talent pool of Meghalaya and recognize their efforts and contribution in various fields, Imagenation in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Meghalaya, felicitated the eight young achievers on the evening of International Youth Day.
Zenith M. Sangma, Meghalaya minister of sports & youth affairs gave away the prizes to the winners.
The tagline of the first of its kind initiative to encourage the youths to bring in the positive changes in the society has been aptly designed as “Dream…Dare …Shine”.
After a month long activity of nomination and short-listing the deserving candidates, the organization chose 30 finalists out of whom 8 winners emerged.
The ceremony on Wednesday also included some entertainment programs besides the awards like a Rock Band ‘Light in the Dark’ performed by Blind band members who were also Meghalaya’s Got Talent Finalists.
Furthermore, activities like Football Stunts and performance by Restless Desire a band from Tura and Asia’s Got Talent Semi Finalist Toshanbor Singh Nongbet added excitement and fun to the ceremony. Cash awards of Rs 20,000/- each and certificates to the winners handed over by Sangma. – By Our Reporter
