It’s was an overwhelming moment for the educationists in the state capital when walked down the memory lane and shared the wonderful contributions made by their own teachers with Governor V Shanmuganathan.
Of course, initially the educationists were bit unsure of the tenor of their interaction that might take place with the first citizen of the state, but the governor played the icebreaker and to their pleasant surprise asked them to name the best teacher they have come across.
Majority of the teachers who stood up to participate recounted their own teacher, whom they attributed had made them the people they are today.
Some like St Edmund’s College principal Sylvanus Lamare took the opportunity to salute a teacher in his own institution who had volunteered to take special tuition to a student who was diagnosed with tuberculosis and this helped the student to clear the BSc 2nd year.
Earlier, Governor V Shamuganathan said teachers are epitomes of selfless service and they are the engines of national growth. “Even in dire circumstances, our teachers have rendered invaluable service towards individual, social and national growth,” he said while appealing that due respect should be accorded to the teachers.
According to him, today more than anytime, a great responsibility rests on the teachers to build the character and acumen of the children and youth of India.
The governor said, “India today is striving towards economic progress with social justice. In this endeavor, the teacher has an important role to perform by facilitating the application of knowledge, promoting skills and vocations beyond classrooms and curriculum.”- By Our Reporter
