SHILLONG, FEB 9: Conceding that young people in the country feels disconnected with politics and politicians, Congress party star campaigner Lok Sabha MP Priya Dutt, daughter of the late illustrious actor Sunil Dutt, actress Nargis Dutt and sister of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, underscored the need for the youngsters to be part of the political process and bring about the changes that they desire in the country.

Dutt said they can start by first exercising their franchise by voting in the upcoming Meghalaya assembly elections slated for February 23.

Even as Dutt emphasized the Congress focus to bring about inclusive growth and development in the country, she appealed to the voters in Meghalaya to “vote for stability” a euphemism she used to describe her party’s “stability plank” and said that it was only the Congress that was capable of providing such a stable government.

The Mumbai North Central Lok Sabha MP had a candid interacting with reporters in Pinewood Hotel on Saturday as she is in Shillong to campaign in some assembly constituencies for the party candidates. Claiming that it is only the Congress that can provide a stable government despite the several hiccups and charges of corruption leveled at the party, she said people must acknowledge that it is the Congress which really gave power in the hands of the people.

Dutt said, The Congress USP is very simple – inclusive growth and development. We have to balance every section of society and most of our policies and schemes are focusing on inclusive growth.”

Speaking about the Congress prospect in February 23 elections, Dutt said that the feedback she received is positive and, referring to chief minister Mukul Sangma, she felt that the young leader must be given a chance to carry forward the developmental works further in the state.

Dutt, however, admitted the pitfall of unpredictability in elections saying that you never know what exactly is happening at the ground.

Congress, Dutt said, is a party that is striving to bring about changes for the better and reminded that these changes are taking place.- By Our Reporter
