SHILLONG, MAY 16: Assam’s Special Director General of Police (Training & Armed Police), Dr Lajja Ram Bishnoi on Monday was appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Meghalaya.
This was informed by the Secretary in-charge Home (Police) department, Cyril VD Diengdoh in a notification.
“From amongst the empanelled list of IPS officers duly recommended by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in its meeting held on February 9, 2022 and in the interest of public service, the Governor of Meghalaya is pleased to appoint Dr Lajja Ram Bishnoi, IPS (RR 1991), Special Director General of Police (Training & Armed Police), Assam, Guwahati as the Director General of Police (Head of Police Force), Meghalaya, Shillong in the Apex Scale of Pay (Level 17) in the Pay Matrix with effect from the date of taking over charge and until further orders,” the notification said.
Mukesh Agrawal and KV Singh Deo, both belonging to the 1989 batch, were also among the names shortlisted by the UPSC out of the five names sent by the state government earlier after the retirement of R Chandranathan on December 21, 2021.
The selection was done as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court.
The other two are S. Narayan Singh (1991 batch) and Idashisha Nongrang (1992 batch). Nongrang is functioning as the officiating DGP.
