SHILLONG, SEP 3: BJP national president and Meghalaya in-charge Dr Chuba Ao on Saturday downplayed the demand to oust the incumbent state president Ernest Mawrie as a “miscommunication”.
When asked why many disgruntled leaders and members want Mawrie to step down, Dr Ao said, “That is their personal issues. Party has to be led by somebody…today he (Mawrie) is there, he is leading. There may be a little bit of miscommunication, this and that…if you have any problem with the president or me one should come to us for clarification instead of going to the air.”
He also ruled out any move to replace Mawrie. Dr Ao also clarified on his own statement when he asked Mawrie should gracefully retire as state president by saying, “No, I have not given (statement) directly, somebody had ranked me up and I got a little bit emotional somebody tape and send it…”
“Everybody has a responsibility to do this but sometimes miscommunication is there in between, somebody misinterprets this way things are divided otherwise we are united,” he claimed.
On his allegation that Mawrie was NPP’s agent, Dr Ao said, “Politics is the art of speaking…anybody can term it, it is not a permanent word that may be in that time it is suitable.”
Further maintaining that there is no infighting within the BJP, the national vice president said everybody is working and are functioning in their own respective units.
“See party president is an organization head but all are leaders, all people who are working in the party are leaders, our system is president preside and party decide,” he said.
Dr Ao also defended Mawrie when he said even MLA may be denied ticket by the party and said, “that may be he said out of ignorance but the matter is clear it is not mine or his decision as we have certain surveys in that survey the trend is coming up supposed if less than 50 % popularity comes then everybody knows he is losing then why should we give a losing person a ticket. We have to see.”
He however said that the party is yet to decide on a CM candidate.
“We don’t project such a thing initially, it will come automatically,” he said while informing that the party is yet to decide on the number of seats that they will field candidates but “We have assigned them (to identify candidates) in all 60 constituencies.”
