Dorbars to attend meet

SHILLONG, SEPT 4:  With ‘No MUDA byelaws, No Ordinance’ slogan, the 27 village dorbars under Hima Khyriem and Mylliem decided to attend the Dorbar Bah (grand assembly) called by the KHADC at Polo on Saturday.  The decision was announced to refute the allegation made by vested interested in the name of 12 dorbar shnongs that villages like Laitkor Pyllun, Pomlakrai Pyllun and others are likely to skip the Dorbar Bah.

“Twenty-seven dorbar shnongs falling under the two Himas have unanimously decided to attend the Dorbar Bah tomorrow at Polo ground,” Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong Khyriem and Mylliem president S Pyngrope told reporters at a press conference on Friday.

He said the decision was taken to respect KHADC which is the authority over the traditional institutions and traditional chiefs.”

According to him, the dorbar shnongs wanted to hear what the KHADC have to say in relation to the issues regarding its KHAD (Appointment and Succession of Chiefs & Headmen) Rules, 2015, the Land Development and Building Byelaws, 2015 and to oppose the ordinance brought by the state government.

“We also expect that the KHADC would also enlighten the people of the Bri U Hynniewtrep on the illegal extension of the MUDA building byelaws to the schedule areas,” Pyngrope said.

Echoing similar support to the Dorbar Bah, Laitkor Dorbar Pyllun president Leonard Arun Mawrie said, “We refute the allegations made by some vested interested saying we as the dorbar pyllun have opposed the meeting,” adding “Actually, such decision to skip the meeting was never taken by executive committee of the Laitkor Dorbar Pyllun.”

He said Laitkor Dorbar Pyllun comprises of four dorbar villages – Laitkor-Rngi, Laitkor-Mawrie Lumheh, Laitkor-Mawrie and Laitkor-Nongdaneng and added, “We as a Dorbar have always welcomed the invitation to attend meetings convened by political parties and this time also through the invitation of the KHADC CEM, we will do the same.”

Appealing to others to attend the meeting, he said, “This is a very important meeting because of the fact that it concerns the life and death of the indigenous community.”

Pomlakrai Dorbar Pynllun general secretary also informed that the six villages under the dorbar have accepted the invitation and will attend the meeting tomorrow.

On Thursday, a statement allegedly from the 12 Dorbar Shnongs had stated that they have decided to skip the Dorbar Bah because of the recent attack on the HSPDP leader Ardent M Basaiawmoit and his group.- By Our Reporter
