SHILLONG, AUG 10: The Maharashtra government will examine the Meghalaya model of district councils so that it can replicate it for ten percent of its tribal population in their state.
The Maharashtra Finance Commission (MFC) chairman JP Dange who is in the city to assess the modification of the model said the Maharashtra would look to implement the model in the state.
The MFC is also keen to replicate the provision of the sixth schedule of the Indian constitution for its tribal population
The North East Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Limited (NERAMAC) Managing Director Vinod Kalbande is also in Shillong with the MFC has stressed on the need for better and connectivity to export the agricultural and horticulture products of the state to other states and even European countries which would benefit the state farmers.
Kalbande told reporters that the NERAMAC can help in exporting the local products to metropolitan cities if the corporation gets railway containers.
Kalbande also suggested that the Meghalaya government can move to the union government to fix the Minimum Support Price for farmers in the state like other states after which NERAMAC can step in and provide all the necessary infrastructure for effectively producing horticulture and agricultural products.
“Since products are naturally organic here we will ask organic certification agencies to the region to export to the products European countries,” Kalbande told reporters.
The delegation also held meeting with Meghalaya government officials on Saturday to discuss the various problems in horticulture and agriculture sector of the state.- By Our Reporter
