SHILLONG, SEPT 5: Embattled chief minister Mukul Sangma got a breather on Friday when the AICC general secretary Luihinzo Falerio said that he will continue as chief minister after the crucial Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting on Friday.
Falerio told reporters after the CLP meeting at Hotel Polo Tower, “Mukul Sangma was, is and will continue to be the chief minister in the state.” He also feign knowledge of the Congress dissidents led by MPCC president DD Lapang and former chief minister Salseng C Marak demanding change of leadership.
Falerio said, “I’ve never heard of it (demand for change of leadership)… it’s just a figment of imagination of someone else.”
The CLP meeting was attended by all the Congress legislators including Lapang and senior leader SC Marak.
Dubbing the CLP meeting as very intimate one, Falerio said, “Everybody spoke their hearts’ out and when everybody speaks from their hearts, the outcome is always beautiful.”
Falerio said he congratulates all CLP members including senior leaders who have also given various suggestions on how to avoid misunderstanding created by somebody. He said, “The whole episode (demand for leadership change) was just an in house misunderstanding and nothing else.’
According to Falerio the best things when misunderstandings takes place is to meet each other and sort it out. He, however, informed that the meeting decided to come up with a mechanism to ensure that whenever differences arise they are sorted out immediately by discussing with each other.
Asserting that differences is a natural phenomena in a healthy democracy, Falerio said, “Differences are there among husband and wife, brother and sisters in a family but what is important that these needs to be sorted out.”
Asked Falerio asserted that all differences are over,” adding “The minutes of this meeting will be submitted to the party’s high command.” He added, “its good news for the Congress family here.”
Interestingly, the MPCC president and dissident leader DD Lapang has also denied of having sending any press statement to the media on their meeting with AICC president Sonia Gandhi on the issue of leadership change.
“I have not sent it and the guy (Charles Marngar) had committed a mistake while typing the release and he was dismissed,” DD Lapang clarified in front of the AICC leader.
Lapang, however, said, “It is my duty to meet the AICC central leadership but it is not for the press to misinterpret our meeting.”Admitting that quarrelling will be there, he said, “If husband and wife are quarreling it makes the family more solid,” adding “However, the Congress may quarrel but we will not break it.”
Lapang said, “We all sort of quarrel but we will not burnt our own family down… the party will stand united.”
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said he will continue to focus on the party’s commitment and strive and to achieve the party’s objective which is to deliver to aspiration and expectation of the people.- By Our Reporter
