SHILLONG, MAY 6: While appealing to the public and the government employees not to pay heed to the bandh call given by the outlawed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), the Meghalaya government Tuesday condemned the threat issued by the organization and assured its commitment to ensure the safety of its citizens at all cost.
The HNLC demanding the immediate release of Hynniewtrep A’chik National Movement (HANM) president Lamphrang Kharbani and four others who were arrested by the SWAT team of the police on May 2 or else it said it would impose for four –day on May 8, 9, 12 and 13 shutdowns of government offices.
Condemning HNLC’s “unwarranted threat”, the state government issued an appeal on Tuesday to the citizens not to be intimidated by the bandh call made by such vested interest and criminal elements.
“The state government would like to reiterates its firm commitment to maintain law and order at all costs and to ensure that that security of its citizens is not compromised in anyway, and reiterates its commitment to deal with such cases with a firm hand in keeping with its constitutional obligation to ensure peace and a secure environment to all citizens of the state,” a government statement said.
The statement also asked the citizens and government employees in particular not to pay any heed to this unreasonable bandh call and to come out as they would on any normal day and carry on with their daily activities without any fear or apprehension of reprisals.- By Our Reporter
