Shillong, Feb 14 : Even as the North East Students Organisation (NESO) submitted a memorandum to the President and Prime Minister, through the seven state governors, to ensure the safety of the north east people staying in Delhi on Friday, the Delhi police resorted to lathi charge on JNU north east students protesting against the killing of the seventeen years student Nido Taniam.
The protest took place in Jantar Mantar and the northeast students tried to march towards Raisana Hills but were lathi charged by the police. It is learnt that some of the students were also arrested.
NESO president Samuel Jyrwa told this website that he has been informed that some students have been hospitalized and some others sustained injuries. He also informed that the protest was organized by the Manipur Students Union (MSU) unit of the JNU and others student organizations from the north east in Delhi also joined in the rally against racism.
Jyrwa, who is on his way to Delhi, informed that on Saturday there will be another rally and prayer meeting of the north east students in Jantar Mantar to protest against the atrocities committed on the students of the region and also the killing of the seventeen years old student from Arunachal Pradesh student.
Jyrwa said that as of now he does not know how many students have been hospitalized and how many of them were injured. He said, “ Once I reach Delhi I will be able to know how many of the protesting students from north east have been hospitalized and how many of them are injured.” – By Our Reporter
