SHILLONG, DEC 20: The state government appealed to the citizens to disregard the twelve-hour bandh called by the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) on Monday next.
“Bandhs are not to be tolerated whether it is a festive season or not for they are complete deterrents and stumbling blocks for the overall progress of the state and the day to day functioning of each and every individual in the state,” Meghalaya home minister Roshan Warjri said while appealing to all citizens to defy the bandh.
The bandh which will start from 6 am to 6 pm has been called by the HNLC demanding for the immediate and unconditional release of the pro ILP activists arrested by the police during the three-month ILP agitations in the state.
Warjri further termed the bandh as reflection of complete lack of respect and absolute disregard on the part of the HNLC towards the sentiments of the general public and said, “This is a clear attempt to vitiate the harmonious atmosphere of fellowship during this festive season.”
Informing that the state government is geared up to deal with the situation, Warjri said, “Adequate arrangements will be made to ensure that peace and harmony is maintained.” She also warned that any attempts to cause any disturbance or to disrupt law and order will not be tolerated and shall be dealt with most firmly and severely.
Warjri urged everybody to observe the spirit of Christmas in a peaceful manner and usher is a New Year with renewed confidence, vigour and spirit.- By Our Reporter
