Deborah summoned by court on nexus

TURA, NOV 7: The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in East Garo hills district directed Meghalaya social welfare minister Deborah Marak and activist Tennydard Marak to appear before the court on November 14  following the charge-sheets filed by the police on the alleged nexus with GNLA militants.

The court issued summons to the Deborah and Tennydard based on the charge-sheet filed by the police.

Deborah  has been charge sheeted by the police alleging that she use d GNLA militants to intimidate voters in the last state assembly elections. The minister has, however, denied the allegations and said she will fight it out in the court of law.

Tennydard, who has filed a case on the ST status of chief minister Mukul Sangma,  has also been charged of aiding the Congress legislator in intimidating the voters during the assembly elections.

Independent candidate Jonathon N Sangma, who lost the elections to Deborah, accused her of taking the help of the militants to influence the voters.

East Garo hills SP Davies Marak informed that the CJM court issued the notices to both the minister and Tennydard. He warned that if any or both of them fail to comply with the court summons notices they can possibly be charged of absconding.

The SP said both of them will have to cooperate with the investigating authorities to prevent arrest.- From Our Correspondent
