SHILLONG, DEC 14: District Council Affairs (DCA) Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui has informed that Rs 45 crore was released from the central special assistance grants to the three autonomous district councils (ADCs) in the state.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Rymbui said that the DCA has released 50 percent of the Central funds sanctioned under the 15th Finance Commission to the respective ADCs for the various developmental works as per plan and estimates submitted by them.
Of Rs 45 crore, he said the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will get Rs 20.47 crore, Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) – Rs 18.20 crore and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) – Rs 6.82 crore.
It may be mentioned here employees of the GHADC and JHADC are at the receiving end since they have not received their salaries for the past many months.
Asked, the DCA minister however maintained that the Rs 45 crore is not meant for payment of salaries to the employees and the ADCs cannot divert the funds for such purposes.
He also reminded that the state government is not mandated to pay the salary of ADC employees. “We are mandated to release the share of the ADCs whatever is pending if it is there, that is our only mandate,” Rymbui stated.
According to him, the state government is releasing share to the district councils regularly.
