SHILLONG, MAY 19: East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner Sanjay Goyal imposed section 144 CrPC prohibiting “devil worship” and movement of youth at cemeteries, desecration of graves, vandalism of sacred symbols and public nudity.
“In view of the urgency of the matter, this order is being passed ex-parte and it shall come into force with immediate effect and remain in force till further orders,” Goyal said in his order passed on Monday.
The order also prohibited defacing the walls with graffiti, gang fights and unauthorized bike races at night.
Goyal said the order is being issued following information that certain number of people especially youths are indulging in what is described as “devil worship” or “satan worship” in the district.
“This “devil worship” or “satan worship” is manifested in the form of public nudity, desecration of graves, destruction and vandalism of religious and sacred symbols and texts and movement of youth, both boys and girls, at cemeteries very late in the night and indulging in activities both immoral and criminal like defacing the walls with graffiti, gang fights and unauthorized bike races at night,” Goyal stated
Goyal also informed that such practices have hurt the sentiments of the Christians and other religions across the district while generating anxiety and worry amongst the public at large.
Goyal said that he is of the opinion that such practices/activities, if allowed to be continued, will create social unrest and inflame religious sentiments across the district resulting in danger to human life, health & safety and that may lead to disturbance of the public tranquility.- By Our Reporter
