SHILLONG, MAY 9: South West Garo hills police on Thursday night arrested a gang of dacoits for creating havoc in the district during the recent past.
South West Garo hills SP R Muthu informed on Friday that the police managed to arrest them after receiving tip off about the movement of the dacoits from the villagers. Lead by sub inspector John Sangma, who is incharge of Zikzak, the dacoits was arrested from his jurisdiction.
Police arrested the dacoits while they were on their way to commit crimes in the nearby villages. The six arrested dacoits have been identified as Borit D. Sangma, Jecky S. Sangma, Mandesh G. Momin and Watting S. Sangma, all from Thakuranbari, Silgrak M. Sangma from Latrigre and Johan A. Marak from Dangganatong.
A pistol with live ammunition, black masks, black T-shirts and mobile handsets were recovered from their possession and later huge amounts of cash were also recovered from their houses, Muthu informed.
On May 5, the same gang had committed robbery in Sindilgre village and taken away huge amount of cash at gunpoint. This same gang has been responsible for a series of robberies that took place in the district, Muthu said, adding raids and intensive operations are being conducted in the district to nab their accomplices.
Muthu has lauded the villagers of the district for their timely inputs that led to the arrest of the gang.- By Our Reporter
