SHILLONG, MAR 2: Around forty cyclists participated Cyclothon to spread the message of ‘Clean N Green Meghalaya.’ Twenty of the cyclists were from AdventuRers while the rest were participants who joined.
Kailash Varma, the coordinator, said that through Cyclothon they wanted to convey message to society of the importance of clean and green Meghalaya. He said, “Our t-shirts are printed with our slogan “Clean N Green Meghalaya” clearly sending a message to everyone.
Varma also informed that the vanguard team led by Ooma T. Tariang collected over two hundred bottles from the road going ahead of the cyclists and these bottles were disposed off in a proper manner.
Varma said the cyclothon was undertaken to promote good health by encourage people to go to office on cycles and teenagers to go to school on cycles, indirectly reducing pollution, from cars burning fossil fuels.
Sanjay Goel, IAS, flagged off the event with a chequered flag and said that it was a great initiative by The AdventuRers and supported the ‘Clean n Green Drive’ and said he would like to see some car free zones, at least in some parts of Shillong, on Saturdays and Sundays which needs to be planned properly.-By Our Reporter
