SHILLONG, JAN 18: The Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) has demanded removal of the officer-in-charge SB Siangshai of Mawlasnai police outpost, in Raid Nongtung under Ri Bhoi district for allegedly discouraging people from filing complaints.
CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said in a statement issued on Saturday,“We demand that the officer in-charge of Mawlasnai Outpost, in Raid Nongtung under Ri Bhoi district be immediately removed from the outpost.”.
The CSWO also wants that Siangshai should be booked for misleading the village people and terrifying them from filing FIR’s which it felt is a very serious matter.
The demand came after Siangshai allegedly discouraged a family from filing the FIR after they were threatened by a group of people from Umraling village.
The victim Sistina Lamare and her family were attacked by four men including Bokstar Nongbri, Wanbiang Lamare, Rishan Lamare and another on January 14 because of land documents which the victim received from her clan elders.
Besides allegedly threatening to kill Lamare, the four had also assaulted the lady and her 14 year-old son and even tried to torch down her house. Both were badly injured after the assault.
On January 17; Sistina Lamare went to Mawlasnai Outpost to file FIR against the perpetrators. The FIR was received by the police who then took her for medical examination in Bhoilymbong CHC after which the police also conducted an inspection in the place where she was attacked.
However, Siangshai had allegedly discouraged her from complaining as he said if they go to court they would have to spend for hiring lawyer. The police officer, according to the CSWO statement, charges the Lamare of being a bad lady when she insisted on filing the FIR.
Kharshiing said the police officer failed to make arrest of the accused when they were already in the police outpost. She informed, “We have taken up the matter with the senior police officials of the district for necessary action.” – By Our Reporter
