SHILLONG, NOV 3: Chief Secretary Rebecca Venessa Suchiang on Wednesday chaired the first meeting of the newly formed State Level Committee (SLC) for Standardization, Quality Systems and Hallmarking activities for the State of Meghalaya.
In her inaugural address, Suchiang stressed that the committee should take up the action included in the agenda of the meeting like creation of standardization Cells in Govt. Dept., Certification of piped drinking water, awareness about hallmarking of gold jewellery and its implementation by involving Self-Help groups, capacity building of government department on standards formulation, promotion and implementation.
She also emphasised on the need of the Government Departments to work in tandem with BIS in order to achieve the objectives of the committee.
Deputy Director General Eastern Region (DDGE), Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as a member of the committee emphasised that relevant Indian Standards may be referred in their tenders and procure ISI Marked goods by Government Depts. He also requested the State Govt. to go for Certification of Piped Drinking Water, Preventing sell of Non-ISI Packaged Drinking Water, Implementation of Quality Control Orders, setting up of Assaying &Hallmarking Centres in the State of Meghalaya. He stressed the need for creation of a Standardization Cell in Government Departments, formation of Student Clubs for better understanding ofQuality, Safety and Standardization in Schools and Implementation of Management System Certification in the GovernmentDepartments.
It was decided to share the list of Indian Standards with the relevant Govt. Depts. for their reference in tenders and procurements. It was also decided to take up with the Industries Dept. for setting up Assaying & Hallmarking Centre by private entrepreneurs.
The SLC meeting ended with a vote of thanks to the chair by Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya,Food Civil Supplies & CA Pravin Bakshi.
