SHILLONG, JULY 10: The number of people infected by COVID-19 in the state has crossed 100 on Friday.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that the COVID-19 active cases in the state have increased to 139.
“10 more persons have tested positive in Shillong. 7 of them had returned from Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Chennai etc., 2 of them were high risk contacts of a positive case. 1 more patient at NEIGRIHMS,” Sangma tweeted on Friday night.
Earlier during his daily briefing, Health Minister AL Hek told reporters that 29 more BSF jawans were tested positive for coronavirus.
“26 BSF jawans are from Shillong and 3 are those who returned from Assam to Tura,” he said.
Hek informed that East Khasi Hills is having the highest number of active cases at 102 which include 91 in BSF camp (90 jawans, one female) 2 in Air Force (males), and 9 others include five males and four females.
He said 15 cases are in Ri Bhoi (9 males, 6 females), 1 male in East Jaintia Hills, and 6 in West Garo Hills.
The health minister informed that a total of 22,944 samples were sent for testing as on Friday of which 22,520 were found to be negative while test results for 253 are awaited. According to him, 45 people have already recovered from the disease.
Meanwhile, over 21, 184 people have returned to the state from different parts of the country and abroad.
