SHILLONG, JUN 9: Sixteen more persons have succumbed to COVID-19 on Wednesday taking the death toll in the state to 694.
According to the Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War, 9 deaths were reported in East Khasi Hills district and 1 each in West Garo Hills district and North Garo Hills district.
The state has also recorded 448 new COVID-19 cases and with this, the total number of active cases stands at 4,849.
Dr War said the new cases include 152 in East Khasi Hills, 69 West Garo Hills, 40 North Garo Hills, 36 South West Garo Hills, 31 Ri Bhoi, 27 East Garo Hills, 27 South West Khasi Hills, 25 West Khasi Hills, 17 West Jaintia Hills, 15 South Garo Hills and 9 East Jaintia Hills.
He also informed that as many as 507 patients have also recovered from the viral infection during the past 24 hours.
Of these, 261 are from East Khasi Hills, 91 Ri Bhoi, 35 South West Garo Hills, 34 West Jaintia Hills, 20 North Garo Hills, 15 West Khasi Hills, 15 East Jaintia Hills, 14 West Garo Hills, 11 South West Khasi Hills, 9 South Garo Hills and 2 East Garo Hills.
So far, the state has detected a total of 39, 983 COVID-19 cases out of which 4,849 are active cases, 34,440 recovered and 694 deaths.
With 1,876 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong, is the worst affected district in the state, followed by West Garo Hills with 673 cases and 627 West Jaintia Hills.
There are 397 cases in Ri Bhoi, 309 South West Garo Hills, 259 South West Khasi Hills, 190 North Garo Hills, 149 East Jaintia Hills, 145 West Khasi Hills, 127 East Garo Hills and 97 South Garo Hills.
