SHILLONG, MAY 9: Two drug-peddlers were convicted and sentenced to ten years rigorous imprisonment by the court after the police had busted the drug peddling racket and seized a huge cache of drugs from their possession in 2011.
The two peddlers i Krishna Bahadur Thapa (46) and Lalhlimpui Khangte (22) from Aizawl, Mizoram were produced before the court on Thursday, police said.
The court of special judge (NDPS), Shillong found the two accused guilty and accordingly sentenced Thapa to 10 years imprisonment with a fine of Rs one lakh and if he defaults he has to undergo additional one year imprisonment. Thapa was convicted under section 22 (C) NDPS Act, East Khai Hills SP M Kharkhrang said.
Kharkhrang informed that Lalhlimpui was convicted under section 27 (C) NDPS Act and the court has taken her period of detention from 9.3.2011 to 30.4.2013.
On March 8, 2011, acting on a tip-off, city the anti-narcotic cell led by ASP crime Vivek Syiem swung into action and intercepted two vehicles (suspected to be stolen vehicles) at Lukier road junction and detained the two who were with a three year old child.
After a search, the team seized ten packets of psychotropic substances namely Diazepam injection IPZEPOSE for IM on slow injection (a total of 500 injections) was recovered from the vehicles of the accused persons.
The police accordingly charge sheeted the two on June 6, 2011.- By Our Reporter
