SHILLONG, APR 2: East Khasi hills police left for Kolkata on Wednesday to take custody of the banned militant outfit – Hynniewtrep National (HNLC) area commander in-charge of Jaintia hills Phyrnailang Swer alias Pastor and his aide Nand Kishore Thakur who were arrested by special task force of Kolkata Police on Tuesday.
Swer and Thakur were apprehended by the Kolkata police after storming their hideout at Chittaranjan Avenue, East Khasi Hills district SP M Kharkhrang said.
Stating the catch is of significance, Kharkhrang said Swer, also a hardcore criminal has remained elusive after he escaped from North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) hospital on July 17 last year.
Police had been on his lookout and with the help of state and central intelligence agencies he was finally traced in Kolkata.
Kharkhrang informed, “A team from Shillong police has left for Kolkata to bring both of them to Shillong for further investigation.”
Swer was first arrested in August 2004 along with eight others when they formed a new gang, styled as the Retrieval of Indigenous United Forum (RIUF). He was put under MPDA and after release from detention he started working closely with HNLC.- By Our Reporter
