SHILLONG, NOV 24: The proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) today claimed that a senior police official had made communication with the outfit via emails requesting especially its publicity secretary to join the mainstream.
“Even the Spl SP of Special Branch M Kharkrang had also communicated with me through email. Will the Congress government dare arrest him too,” HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said in a statement issued here.
Nongtraw however said that the government will not dare (arrest the SP) because the government has not done what it is supposed to do.
“It is just like what is said in law; justice is not only to be done, it should be seen to be done. The government has shown too much lackadaisical attitude since nobody has been arrested,” he said.
As per the excerpts from the alleged emails reveals the conversation held between Kharkrang and Nongtraw. On November 21, Kharkrang had informed that he had taken up the letter sent by Nongtraw to the Director General of Police (DGP) and expressed that the police welcomes if he decides to return to his family.
He was reacting to the recent arrest of the two activists of the Arts of Living (AoL) – Khroo Lamsalanki Pariat and Samir Jolly from along the Indo-Bangla border while they were heading to Sylhet, Bangladesh to meet the leaders of the HNLC.
The duo, who were arrested on ground that they do not have any mandate or authorisation by the State to hold parleys with a banned organisation under the UAP Act, are now lodged in the Jowai District Jail after they were remanded to 14 days judicial custody.
The HNLC publicity secretary also said that if the Arts of Living activists were arrested on this ground, then why does it takes time to arrest the then home minister Roshan Warjri, who had also contacted the leaders of the outfit without the knowledge of the government.
“Who will dare arrest her and we all know who is in power in Meghalaya,” he said.
Nongtraw, who earlier luaded the Centre government’s effort made through the Arts of Living to bring the outfit to the negotiating table, said “Anyone who wants to associate themselves with the Art of Living can do so as it is not a commmunal organisation but a genuine one, which does not build walls irrespective of caste, creed or religion but instead it build bridges to bring humans closer to one another.”
Earlier on August 31, Nongtraw had sent a letter to the DGP through the SP where he appealed to the police department to stop harassing his family members by visiting his home time and again thereby creating a fear psychosis in their minds.
He also stated in the letter that the warning through police’s agents that they would hunt him down in a foreign country can be termed as a distant dream. “Emotional blackmail shall prove fatal. If this was the case then all the other NE outfits would have vanished from Bangladesh, Myanmar.”
Also accusing state government of betraying the outfit over the peace process, Nongtraw said, “The CM had a soft corner only for the ANVC because of Dilash Marak. I would categorically state that the ANVC was used by Mukul Sangma for all his election proposes and businesses. Dilash Mark is still a close confidante of the CM, now he had joined the BJP in order to make way for the forthcoming elections 2018. I deeply feel that our organisational downfall was a manipulated effort of the Garo politicians because they wanted to gain supremacy by making their outfits strong. We became the scapegoats of a planned political conspiracy.”
Stating that the police department in Garo hills are well versed with the politician militant nexus, he said, “Garo outfits are given outright chances to come forward for peace talks. All the surrendered cadres work for the politicians and it is a known fact . This step motherly attitude of the Meghalaya government made us change our mind . Now This is the reason why, in our concluding NE conference I had agreed with all the various brotherly outfits of the NE to co operate provide logistics support and carry on our fight.”
