SHILLONG, NOV 27: The opposition National People’s Party (NPP) said that the ruling Congress will be rejected by the people of Meghalaya in the upcoming state Assembly elections to be held early next year.
“The decision of MPCC chief DD Lapang and other senior leaders of the Congress not to contest the upcoming elections is a sign that the Congress would be rejected by the people of the state and ultimately face defeat in the upcoming elections,” NPP national president Conrad K Sangma said.
Addressing at the first general conference of the party’s Dadenggre Block held at Tebronggre village on Saturday last, Conrad said also expressed confidence that the outcome of the upcoming election would go in the favour of the NPP.
“The NPP will form the new government,” the Tura MP said.
He also expressed his happiness at the growth of the party and attributed this to the strong foundations laid by the founder of the Party Lt P A Sangma.
According to him, these foundations were based on the welfare and protection of the rights of Tribals, religious minorities including Christians and the people of North East in general.
Conrad also appreciated the fact that careful selection of candidates based upon the criteria of qualification, experience and genuine concern for the welfare of the people would go a long way in ensuring success for the NPP in the upcoming elections.
