SHILLONG, MAY 21: Former Congress minister Frankenstein W Momin, who has joined the NPP, on Saturday said the outcome of the Tura bye-election is an indication of the danger the ruling Congress will be facing in the 2018 state elections.
“Judging from the results where the Congress could not win in all the 23 assembly segments except in Ampati with a narrow margin, Mukul’s threat to vanquish the NPP is just an ‘empty boast’,” Momin said. He also questioned as to how the chief minister can erase a political party, when the people are the actual power who mandates as to who is going to form the government in every elections.
“The result in this bye-election is rather an indication of what is going to happen in the assembly election in 2018. There is danger of his (CM) own Congress party being vanquished,” Momin stated.
Stating that some may think that Mukul is the undisputed leader, but many think otherwise, he said adding, “The result in this bye-election proves so. Certainly, Mukul’s leadership is not undisputed and the election in 2018 will finally prove it once for all.”
He further stated that none could deny the fact that there may be some element of sympathy vote in favour of Conrad K Sangma, the younger son of the veteran leader late PA Sangma, but that is not all that got him elected with such a huge margin.
“This defeat of the Congress is rather the manifestation and outcome of the anger and dissatisfaction of the general public with the misrule of the Mukul’s government,” he said.-By Our Reporter
