TURA, MAY 1: The blistering Sunday heat failed to deter the NPP and Congress as the candidates of both the parties are trying to outdo each other by addressing elections rallies and wooing voters to vote for them in the upcoming Lok Sabha bye-elections.
On Monday, the NPP and its arch political rivals Congress will be raiding each other’s bastion in their efforts to garner support for themselves.
On a sultry Sunday, Congress candidate Dikkachi Shira addressed several meetings in different localities, including Dobasipara, Hawkhana, Fancy bazaar and Risipara.
While, the National People’s Party candidate Conrad K. Sangma began his day addressing a rally at Selsella, which he represented in 2008 in the Meghalaya legislative assembly. He also addressed rallies at Phulbari and Rajabala constituencies.
Phulbari, Rajabala and Selsella are Congress stronghold.
Conrad is making an effort to connect to the electorates in the plain belt by speaking about his father late Purno Agitok Sangma’s unaccomplished tasks, which has been left behind.
He said, “If elected to the Parliament, I will ensure that all his dreams are fulfilled”. He also assured his committed to the people of Garo Hills. “I will always raise my voice and make myself heard to champion the cause and development of Garo Hills”, he asserted.
Congress candidate Shira in her visit to different localities dwelt on the state government’s achievement and made reference of infrastructure development in Meghalaya and improved road connectivity in Garo Hills.
Hitting out at Narendra Modi led BJP government at the centre, she vowed that if elected she would stand to defend the interest of the minorities.
Shira is going on a campaign trail to Dadenggre constituency tomorrow. A series of rallies have been planned in the constituency, which is an NPP stronghold. The constituency is currently represented by Conrad’s brother James in Meghalaya legislative assembly.
She will be addressing rallies at Dadenggre bazaar, Dollonggre, Damal Asim and Chibra Ading.
While Conrad will be in Congress stronghold Rangsakona constituency represented by Shira’s brother in law and state sports and youth affairs minister Zenith Sangma. Conrad is scheduled to address several rallies in the constituency including Millem and Garobadha.-From Our Correspondent
