SHILLONG, NOV 1: Countering the BJP’s anti-black money day next week, the ruling Congress in Meghalaya has chosen to expose the “anti-people agenda” the NDA-led government had by implementing demonetisation.
Reacting to a query whether the Congress has any plans to organize any activity against the demonetization exercise of the centre here on Wednesday, chief minister Mukul Sangma said the Congress would expose the BJP and its associates.
“Yes, we want to remind the people about this whole anti-people agenda of the party in power the BJP and their associates,” he told reporters.
Sangma also alleged that the whole demonetisation process was not only done by the BJP but along with their associates like the Shiv Sena and the National People’s Party (NPP).
It may be mentioned here, the BJP has decided to mark November 8, first anniversary of the Union government’s decision to demonetise high value currency notes, as anti-black money day across the country.
The chief minister further stated that the main question is has the black money stops as claimed by the centre through the demonetisation drive launched on November 8, last year.
“If the demonetisation exercise was for stopping black money to bring down corruption and to prevent funding of terrorist organizations has it happen, has there been any sign indicating achievement in this direction, that is the question before the country,” he said.
Stating that the objective and agenda of demonetization will be known in due course of time, Sangma said, “We will have to find out what was the original and untold agenda based on which they went for demonetisation in a manner which ultimately created so much of suffering including loss of precious lives, we have to find out in due course of time.”
He said what they (BJP) have indicated as reasons for this agenda of demonetization (like fighting against black money and terrorism) is however yet to show any positive result.
Reiterating that the process of demonetisation will only open up huge corrupt practices by the present centre government, Sangma said have they tried to find out as to how this whole process have actually made some people richer because of corrupt practices.
“They have to find out, it has happened you know, I know, everybody knows, the whole country knows, but they still trying to clinch to that same reason to justify all their omissions and commissions, their whole act of insensitivity which has resulted into suffering innumerable people and loss of precious lives, which I once again condemned,” he added.
