SHILLONG, SEPT 22: A lower court has remanded a frontline supporter of probable Congress candidate from West Shillong to 14 days judicial custody after he was arrested by police for intimidating the UDP sitting legislator Paul Lyngdoh on social media.
Michael (alias Mike) Pakyntein, a former hardcore supporter of the MLA, had recently posted on his Facebook account – ‘RIP Paul Lyngdoh’.
He was also suspected to be involved in the recent petrol bomb attack at the residence of the Lyngdoh.
“He (Mike) was arrested based on the FIR filed by the legislator against a post on social media,” SP (City) Vivek Syiem said
He said that the accused was also produced before a lower court, which accordingly remanded him to 14 days judicial custody.
Asked, Syiem said that the legislator in the FIR had also mentioned that he highly suspects that Pakyntein is one among those involved in hurled petrol bomb at his residence.
Stating that investigation into the matter has already started, the SP said that the police at the moment are building up evidence and they may seek custody of the accused at any time.
Pakyntein is supporting Mahendro Rapsang, a Congress party aspirant for the upcoming 2018 state elections from Shillong West constituency.
