SHILLONG, APR 3: Following rift within the party, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Luizinho Faleiro asserted that all Congressmen will have to fall in-line with the party’s discipline to ensure that the party’s candidates emerge winners in forthcoming April 9-Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Faleiro said, “Congress is a democratic party and there may be differences but when it comes to elections, everybody (Congressmen) has to toe the party’s line.”
Recently, the Congress decided to dissolve the Umroi Block Congress Committee (UBCC) after few of its party leaders and workers had allegedly launched campaigns against the party’s candidates.
“AICC president Sonia Gandhi is keen to ensure that all Congressmen works together as every vote is important in this election,” Faeleiro said.
Faleiro informed that everybody understood the important of this election as everybody will work together. Confirming that the rift has been resolved, he said, “Whatever may be yesterday, I have no doubt that whatever differences are there will not be there in the future.”
Also present during the press briefing was UBCC president Ngaitlang Dhar and his brother PWD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar besides other state Congress leaders.
EVMs manipulation
The Congress said that it has sounded alert in all Congress rule states to ‘cross-check’ the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to be used in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls to ensure that they are ‘tamper-free’.
The alarm was raised following reports of manipulation of the EVMs.
“We have alerted all our Congress ruled states requesting to cross-check the EVMs to be use during the Lok Sabha polls,” All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Luizinho Faleiro told reporters on Thursday.
According to him, in this era of information technology, manipulation may also be taking place.
Earlier, political parties from the state like the United Democratic Party (UDP) had demanded the need to revert back to traditional secret ballot system during voting.
Faleiro too felt that that secret ballot is still the best system.- By Our Reporter
