SHILLONG, MAY 6: A vice president of the Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) has been suspended for six months for allegedly releasing a statement against the sports minister Zenith Sangma recently.
“Bansharai Kharchandy, MPYC vice president has been suspended with effect from today for a period of six months as a disciplinary action for overstepping the MPYC president and releasing a statement to media without any consultation with him,” MPYC president Richard M Marak said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
According to Marak, it is only the MPYC president , who has the authority to issue statements to the media on behalf of MPYC and its different regional units. “All such statements should be made with the knowledge and consent of the President,” he said.
On May 4, a statement was issued by MPYC vice presidents, B Kharchandy and JK Rymbai expressing concern over a statement made by the State Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Zenith Sangma, who is also former MPYC president, even as they demanded him to clarify.
They have termed the statement of Sangma who had said the youth Congress is too demanding “as demeaning and a disappointment to the entire Indian Youth Congress grass root leaders and members associated to the said organization in the state.”- By Our Reporter
