SHILLONG, JAN 10: Senior Congress leaders Chamberline B Marak along with his supporters from Garo hills resigned from the party and joined the National People’s Party (NPP) on Friday.
NPP supremo PA Sangma held a ceremony to welcome former minister and senior Congress leader Chamberline B Marak and his supporters Rakman Ch Marak at Bajengdoba in West Garo hills district on Friday.
The Congress Bhavan was converted into NPP Bhavan. The Congress flag was brought down and the NPP flag hoisted in the office during the ceremony.
In his speech, Chamberline Marak expressed his concern about deteriorating condition in all respect in Meghalaya in general and Garo hills in particular and felt the need to bring all like-minded politicians and leaders in the same platform.
Marak said that PA Sangma, having been MP for 30 years, union minister for many years chief minister of the state and Lok Sabha speaker, has the necessary experience and understanding about the state and therefore he thought that working with him will be in the best interest of the state of Meghalaya.
PA Sangma while welcoming CB Marak and his followers to the party also appealed to all like-minded people to join NPP and work for the people and the state.
In the meeting senior leaders of the party including former MLA of Bajengdoba Johnmanner Marak, Dr Kharlukhi president NPP Meghalaya state, former Rajya Sabha MP Thomas Sangma former deputy chief minister TD Shira former leader of opposition Conrad Sangma and many senior party leaders were present. – By Our Reporter
