SHILLONG, NOV 2: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today said it warmly welcome the “bet” challenged by the chief minister Mukul Sangma that the saffron party will get “zero” seat in the upcoming 2018 state assembly elections.
“The statement by the chief Minister that the BJP will not even win a single seat, and challenged a bet, the BJP warmly accepted the bet,” BJP state vice president JA Lyngdoh said in a statement issued here on Thursday.
Stating that the ruling Congress in Meghalaya is a sinking ship, Lyngdoh said, “Its (Congress) MLAs are either not applying tickets for the ensuing election or some of their MLAs declaring not to contest is a clear apprehension of not certain to make a comeback, leave a side of the Congress claiming to still form the next Government.”
The party vice president also slammed the chief minister for alleging that the Minister of State, Alphons Kannanthanan on his visit to the state did not inform the State Government and was a wasted of public money.
“It is to be noted that the visit by Central leaders of the Union Government if not official, is not mandatory to inform and as such spending of public money thereof does not arise but a desperate attempt by the Chief Minister to malign the BJP,” he stated.
