SHILLONG, MAY 4: The Congress and BJP in Meghalaya seems to have declared “war of enrolment’ as days after the BJP claimed that it has managed to enrolled around 40, 000 members in the state, the Congress on Monday said that it hopes to enrol around 3 lakhs new members by May 15 ahead of its organisational elections in the state.
Congress Rajya Sabha MP Jesudasu Seelam told reporters on Monday at the Congress Bhavan over 1.6 lakh members have already been enrolled and the party expects to meet the target within the remaining 11 days.” He said the party’s target is to enrol at least 5,000 members from each block (c0nstituency) and wants more Mahila (w0men) to enrol as well as the youth.
Seelam informed that the party will also target to enrol university boys and girls.
Responding to query whether the Congress is using inducement to get people enrolled in the party in the next 11 days, Seelam said there is no question of inducement for joining the party. He said that the Congress is restless against the BJP not because it is gaining popularity but is restless to secure citizens rights, to protect farmers from being exploited, fighting for the people of the northeast to retain special category status.
Seelam said, “We are restless because somebody is working against the interest of minorities and somebody is trying to disturb communal harmony among various communities in the country.”- By Our Reporter
