SHILLONG, APRIL 15: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) has decided to observe black flag day on April 23, to protest against the state government’s failure to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in the state.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the confederation led by the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) held on April 13.
Vice chairman of the CoMSO Nikman Ch Marak in a statement issued here on Monday informed that the black flag day will be observed by member organisations across the state.
“The black flag day is the beginning of our agitations against adamant attitude of the state government towards the demand for the immediate implementation of the ILP to check influx and illegal immigrations into the state,” he said.
Marak recalled that the deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong had assured the delegation of the confederation that the state government would take necessary action but unfortunately nothing has been done on this regard.
He said that the confederation would soon announce other agitational programmes to further pressurise the government to implement the ILP in the state. “We appeal to the people of the state to wear black badges or put black flags on their vehicles as a mark of protest against this failure of the government,” Marak added.
