CMJ director surrenders

SHILLONG, MAY 27: The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court remanded CMJ University director Manjit Kaur to 14-day judicial custody on Monday after she surrendered following the non-bailable arrest warrants issued against her and two others.

“The court has remanded her (Kaur) to 14-days judicial custody after she surrendered today,” public prosecutor IC Jha told reporters.

Kaur has however approach for a bail which is to be heard later. The CJM court on May 13 had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Kaur, Juban Kharpuri, university human resources manager-cum-controller of examinations and Chandra Mohan Jha, the University self-style chancellor.

Kaur has been accused by the police of ordering the vandalizing of the university’s office on May 2.

Police investigation has ascertained that the registrar of the university Premlal Rai had lodged a false complaint that the computers containing valuable information of the university were destroyed allegedly by miscreants. Police, however, has  found that data were destroyed by a data entry operator of the university, Kamlesh  Kumar Chowrasia at the direction of Kaur.

Before Kaur, Kharpuri had surrendered before the court. Now  only Chandra Mohan Jha, against whom an arrest warrant has also been issued, is still at large. – By Our Reporter
